The Lions had won the toss and elected to defer, which prompted the official to ask the Bears if they wanted the ball. That's when Chicago linebacker Christian Jones made it a bit confusing by replying, “I want to defer.”

The official told him that the Lions deferred and that the Bears should want the ball.

After that was clarified, the Lions chose which side to kick and the game started, but it was certainly a bizarre moment prior to the contest.
