Blackhawks interim general manager Kyle Davidson, Lightning director of hockey operations Mathieu Darche and Cubs assistant general manager Jeff Greenberg are the candidates who remain in the mix. Davidson was the favorite of Blackhawks CEO Danny Wirtz when the search process began, SportsNet also reported, but it’s unclear if that sentiment remains or whether it has changed.

The Blackhawks have previously indicated they want to have a permanent general manager in place in time to handle the team’s business leading up to the trade deadline on March 21.

"The Chicago Blackhawks advisory committee has concluded its evaluation with general manager candidates and provided input to leadership,” Wirtz said in a statement Thursday. “The leadership team is moving to the next step of the process. Additional updates on the search will be provided as the process continues."

Davidson was elevated to his interim general manager role after president of hockey operations Stan Bowman stepped aside last October in the fallout from the organization’s sexual assault scandal. Davidson has worked for the Blackhawks since 2010.

Darche has worked in his current role for the Lightning since 2019.
He has a wide range of responsibilities, including working in personnel decisions, analytics, player development, contract negotiation and salary cap tracking.

Greenberg is an outside-the-box candidate, as he has no experience working in hockey. He has worked for the Cubs since 2012.
