Cubs acquire reliever Nate Pearson from the Blue Jays

(670 The Score) The Cubs have acquired reliever Nate Pearson in a trade with the Blue Jays, the team announced Saturday.

In return, Chicago traded minor league infielder Josh Rivera and minor league outfielder Yohendrick Pinango to Toronto. To make room for Pearson on their 40-man roster, the Cubs designated right-hander Jesus Tinoco for assignment.

The 27-year-old Pearson had posted a 5.63 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 41 appearances for the Blue Jays this season. He has struck out 51 batters in 40 innings. He has a career 5.21 ERA in four MLB seasons. Toronto selected Pearson in the first round of the 2017 MLB Draft.

Pearson is under contract control through the 2026 season.

Rivera, 23, was hitting .169 with four homers in 68 games at Double-A Tennessee this season. The Cubs selected him in the third round of the 2023 MLB Draft.

Pinango, 22, was hitting .263 with nine homers in 84 games split between high-A South Bend and Double-A Tennessee this season. The Cubs signed him out of Venezuela in 2018.

Tinoco had thrown four scoreless innings for the Cubs since being acquired from the Royals in July 16.
