Nico Hoerner shares what he has learned from Cubs middle infield partner Dansby Swanson

(670 The Score) After shifting to second base to open up the shortstop position for Dansby Swanson as he signed a seven-year, $177-million deal with the Cubs last December, Nico Hoerner has made to point to learn as much as he can from Swanson.

One of the biggest lessons that Hoerner has taken away is how to take a step back in his daily grind when needed.

“Just his preparation,” Hoerner said on the Parkins & Spiegel Show on Tuesday afternoon. “He knows himself really well, and he’s definitely got his routine down in the most efficient way you can do it. Obviously, what you do in the game is the only thing that matters, and he’s got it to where he’s able to be at his best every day regardless of how he’s feeling and knowing when to work and when to take a day lighter and manage that so he’s at his best playing. That’s definitely something that I can improve on. Whether it’s something that he does or the way he goes about it, it’s refreshing and nice to see a guy who has a lot of confidence to do less sometimes. You always want to work and get better at something, but oftentimes what you need is just to keep it simple and be fresh mentally and physically to play.”
