(670 The Score) The Cubs have placed left-hander Justin Steele on the 15-day injured list with left elbow tendinitis, the team announced Wednesday morning.
The Cubs are hopeful that Steele will be on the injured list for the minimum amount of time as they're taking a cautious approach.
“We’re going take the conservative route here,” manager Craig Counsell told reporters. “He had symptoms of an injury that he experienced last year. For that reason, rather than have him focus on his next start, I think it’s best to back off that and make sure he recovers in a good place. (We’re) hoping it’s the minimum, and he can be ready to go in a couple of weeks.”
Steele is 3-1 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in four starts this season. He pitched seven shutout innings in the Cubs' 7-0 win over the Rangers at Wrigley Field on Monday, marking his third consecutive victory. He has pitched 22 2/3 innings this season.
The Cubs host the Rangers on Wednesday from Wrigley Field, where they'll seek a series sweep. First pitch is set for 1:20 p.m. CT, weather permitting. Pregame coverage will start at 12:45 p.m. on 670 The Score.
