Cubs place third baseman Nick Madrigal (hamstring) on injured list

(670 The Score) The Cubs have placed third baseman Nick Madrigal on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain, the team announced Tuesday before opening its series against the Pirates.

Madrigal's placement on the injured list is retroactive to Sunday. In a corresponding move Tuesday, Chicago recalled infielder Jared Young from Triple-A Iowa.

Madrigal is hitting .263 with two homers, 28 RBIs and a .663 OPS in 92 games this season. He has also played superb defense at third base, where he’s been the primary starter with Jeimer Candelario sidelined by injury.

Young, 28, hit .310 with 21 homers and 72 RBIs in 90 games at Triple-A. He hit .171 (6-of-35) in 13 games for the Cubs earlier in the season
