Cubs sign catcher Carson Kelly to a 2-year deal

(670 The Score) The Cubs have signed catcher Carson Kelly to a two-year deal, the club announced Friday evening.

Kelly, 30, hit .238 with nine homers, 37 RBIs and a .687 OPS in 91 games split between the Rangers and Tigers in 2024. A nine-year MLB veteran, Kelly has hit .224 with a .681 OPS in his career.

Kelly will make $5 million in 2025 and $5 million in 2026 on a contract that also includes a $7.5-million mutual option for 2027 and a $1.5-million buyout, guaranteeing him at least $11.5 million, as reported by Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic.

Kelly projects to split time behind the plate with 25-year-old Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya, who hit .232 with eight homers, 47 RBIs and a .644 OPS in 117 games last season. The Cubs also acquired catcher Matt Thaiss from the Angels in a trade in November.
