(670 The Score) At 34 years old, Cubs left-hander Matthew Boyd earned All-Star honors for the first time in his 11-year MLB career.
Boyd did so by going 10-3 with a 2.34 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 111 2/3 innings across 19 starts in the first half of the season. His superb performance came after he underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow in 2023, which sidelined him for most of the 2024 season.
Signing with the Cubs in the offseason was a dream come true for Boyd, who joined the Spiegel & Holmes Show on Tuesday live from Atlanta to reflect on what it’s like to be part of the All-Star festivities.
“It’s such an honor,” Boyd said. “To get to represent the Cubs here is something that’s really, really special. To get to share a clubhouse with all these guys, it’s humbling, it’s an honor and it’s something that I’m really happy to share with my family and be a part of.”
