(670 The Score) White Sox center fielder Luis Robert is taking an important step forward toward returning this season.
Robert will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Winston Salem on Wednesday, the White Sox announced Monday evening after he completed a workout in Arizona. He has been out since May 2 with a tear of his right hip flexor.
Robert, 23, was cleared on June 29 to resume baseball activities. He was hitting .316 with an .822 OPS at the time of his injury.
“I never experienced an injury as severe as that one,” Robert told reporters through a translator on a video conference call. “I wasn't expecting to have the process go as fast as it's gone. I'm just excited.”
The White Sox left fielder Eloy Jimenez (pectoral tear) has also progressed through two weeks of a rehab assignment that currently has him in Triple-A Charlotte.
The White Sox lost 3-2 to the Twins in the first game of a doubleheader at Guaranteed Rate Field on Monday. They're in first place in the AL Central at 56-37.
