(670 The Score) After getting ribbed by his father, White Sox center fielder Luis Robert will now go by Luis Robert Jr., he told reporters at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona on Friday.
Robert hadn’t used the “Jr.” suffix because it’s uncommon in his native Cuba but that his father saw it was used often in the United States, he told reporters.
“That came from my dad,” Robert said, according to Scott Merkin of MLB.com. “He was messing around with me ... He started going, 'Why are you not doing it? Are you going to do it?' I said, 'You want me to do it?' And he said, 'Yeah.' So that's why I started doing it.”
Robert, 25, is coming off an injury-plagued 2022 season in which he hit .284 with 12 homers, 56 RBIs and a .746 OPS in 98 games. Robert will play for Cuba in the World Baseball Classic, which begins March 7.
