(670 The Score) Hitting coach Jose Castro and first-base coach Daryl Boston won’t return to the White Sox in 2024, the team officially announced Friday.
The Sun-Times originally reported that news on Oct. 3 before the team finally confirmed it. Assistant hitting coach Chris Johnson and bullpen coach Curt Hasler also won’t return to their roles on manager Pedro Grifol’s staff in 2024, though they’ve been offered positions elsewhere in the White Sox’s player development system, the team said Friday.
Castro had been in his position with the White Sox for just one season. The White Sox's offense struggled mightily in 2023, ranking 31st in MLB in runs per game (3.96) and 31st in OPS (.675).
Boston had worked in the White Sox’s organization for 26 seasons, including 11 as their first-base coach.
The White Sox are coming off a disastrous 101-loss season in which longtime top executives Ken Williams and Rick Hahn were fired. The White Sox then promoted internally by elevating Chris Getz to become their new general manager.
