(670 The Score) White Sox designated hitter Yermin Mercedes has been named the American League Rookie of the Month for April, MLB announced Monday.
Mercedes, 28, hit .415 with five homers, 16 RBIs and 10 runs in 22 games in April. He also posted a 1.113 OPS. He tied for the MLB lead in hits (34) and ranked second in batting average. Mercedes’ 444-foot average home run distance leads MLB (minimum five homers). He also set an MLB record by starting the season 8-for-8 in his first two games.
Mercedes and the White Sox are off Monday before returning to action against the Reds on Tuesday.
