(670 The Score) Friday has been designated as Les Grobstein Day in Chicago, the city announced.

Grobstein was a legendary sports broadcaster and Score icon who passed away on Jan. 16.
The day of celebration is “in recognition of his indelible contributions to Chicago sports and encourages all residents to join in honoring the life of a man whose legacy will live on in the hearts and lives of all those who knew and loved him,” mayor Lori Lightfoot wrote.
Grobstein was a Chicago native and Columbia College graduate who began his career as a Northwestern basketball commentator in 1970. Grobstein worked as an announcer for various sports teams, a reporter for Sportsphone Chicago, as the sports director at WLS 890-AM and as a reporter for WMVP-1000 before settling into his longtime home with 670 The Score, where his passion earned him the love and loyalty of listeners as he hosted the overnight show.
