Deebo Samuel is having a season for the ages, and that might be an understatement.
The San Francisco 49ers “wide receiver” scored two more rushing touchdowns on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, giving him at least one rushing touchdown in three straight games to become the first wide receiver to accomplish such a feat in the last 20 years.
He also has five rushing touchdowns this season, which is more than Dalvin Cook, Christian McCaffrey, Aaron Jones, Alvin Kamara, David Montgomery and Saquon Barkley entering Sunday.
While we have seen plenty of running backs show off capabilities as receivers over the years, we have not quite seen anything like what Samuel is doing.
According to ProFootballTalk’s Michael David Smith, no player in NFL history has ever had both 1,500 yards receiving and 100 yards rushing in a season but Samuel is not only on pace to accomplish both, he’s actually already surpassed 200 yards and is on pace for 300 yards rushing this season.
Samuel’s use as a dual-threat in the backfield and receiving corps certainly makes him one of the most unique players in the NFL and most dangerous weapons in the league.
He is also a godsend for fantasy owners who have been getting running back production and value from a wide receiver.
Many on social media raved about Samuel after his second score on Sunday.
