This is perfect timing. As much as I love my reversible Orlando Magic Penny Hardaway jersey, my Vancouver Grizzlies Mike Bibby jersey and my many other random, throwback jerseys that were worn before I was even born, I needed to look into some fresh additions.
It looks as though the 2021 NBA season — which still has a chance to be the 2020-21 NBA season, but who knows — will help me out with that. Several different NBA teams' alleged new threads were revealed through leaks on Twitter or through official releases, and the collection holds some diverse designs that are sure to make some fans excited, and some a tad hesitant as to whether or not they dig the new look (h/t Dan Feldman of NBC Sports).
We'll let you be the judge... if they look anything like any of these jerseys, I might have to look into expanding my collection.
According to the Twitter account @UKNetsFans, this jersey is inspired by the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, an American artist of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent whose style was known for its "obsessive scribbling" and "elusive symbols." According to Nets Daily, the City uniforms also aim to honor Biggie Smalls, who, like Basquiat, died in his 20s.
White, gray and gold. Interesting... kind of?
I'm not a huge fan of these leaked jerseys, which may or may not be real. I'm also still fighting off my shock from seeing the Dallas Stars' new unis.
Los Angeles Lakers
Chris Creamer of Sportslogos.net says that these "City Edition" unis pay homage to the 60th anniversary of the Lakers' departure from Minneapolis to Los Angeles. These will be worn along with classic jerseys to commemorate the event, like the one seen here on the late Kobe Bryant.
