The tackle, which was made by 49ers defensive back Jimmie Ward, resulted in Pollard suffering a high ankle sprain and a broken fibula, knocking him out of the game.
Ward dragged down Pollard from behind, and dropped his own body to the turf, falling on to Pollard's leg.
Pollard is now set to miss three to four months after surgery.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was on the receiving end of a similar tackle, which resulted in a high ankle sprain of his own.
