Lots of Memphis fans rejoiced after sources repoorted that the University of Arkansas hired Ryan Silverfield from the Memphis Tigers as head football coach. This only after the Hogs top choice, Alex Golesh of South Florida Bulls, opted to join Auburn Tigers instead according to reports.
Silverfield leaves Memphis with a 50–25 record over six seasons, including 10-win and 11-win campaigns in 2023 and 2024. But Silverfield leaves on a 3-game losing streak and 8-4 mark this season. Silverfield never won the American Conference despite the Tigers being "at or above" any other team in the league in terms of resources and dedicated NIL.
Arkansas, fresh off a 2–10, 0-8 SEC season, turned to Silverfield after negotiations with Golesh fell through according to multiple sources.
