From the University of Memphis Press Release: Hardaway Announces Roster Change for Memphis Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis men’s basketball head coach Penny Hardaway announced today that senior Hasan Abdul Hakim has been dismissed from the program for violation of team rules.
“After repeated violations of team rules, we’ve made the decision to move forward without Hasan,” Hardaway said. “Our focus remains on the young men in our locker room who are committed to doing things the right way and working toward a championship.”
While Abdul Hakim will no longer be a member of the basketball program, the University of Memphis will continue to support him academically as he pursues his degree. The department will also provide access to treatment and sports medicine resources as needed.
In addition, senior Zach Davis has been reinstated immediately and will travel with the team to Tampa for Thursday’s matchup at South Florida.
Memphis remains focused on the remainder of the season and its pursuit of a conference championship.
