Tomlin Named AAC Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas - Senior forward Nae’Qwan Tomlin has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his performances on the court this week.


Tomlin averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game in leading Memphis to wins over AAC second-place squads Charlotte and Florida Atlantic.

The Harlem, New York native put up 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds in Wednesday’s 76-52 victory over the 49ers, then followed it up with one of his best performances as a Tiger. He scored a season-high 21 points with eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks in Sunday’s 78-74 win over the Owls.

Tomlin shot 65.0 percent for the week (13-20), including a 3-for-7 mark from deep and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. The 6-foot-10 forward has now scored double figures in eight of the last nine games.

With two weeks left in the regular season, Memphis will hit the road for the first of its final two road contests with a trip to East Carolina on Thursday. The Tigers and Pirates will tip at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2 in Greenville, North Carolina.
