The 2021-22 season, which held a preseason #12 ranking, much fanfare of high end NIL (name/image/likeness) deals, top ranked recruits, and "putting off" an NCAA ruling (IARP/Independent Accountability Resolution Process) utilizing attorneys and precision communication strategies has now devolved into an over-hyped team that simply can't win basketball games.
The unranked Memphis Tigers Men's Basketball team lost 74-72 to a plucky mid-major in Murray State Friday (12/10) at FedExForum. Yes. The same Murray State Racers team that lost earlier this season to East Tennessee State. That same Murray State team that some picked as low as 3rd in the Ohio Valley Conference. Indeed it can't get much lower for Memphis and Penny Hardaway. Penny himself said as much.
Here's the night in tweets:
The reality facing the Tigers is that they’re just not very good right now. They’ve played Georgia, Ole Miss, and Murray State, all teams outside the tournament, and they’ve looked like they belong more with them than they do in the Tournament.
