Ryan Silverfield alluded to the fact that the University of Memphis Football team was garnering attention of "SEC schools" when he spoke in Collierville earlier this week at the Rotolo's Pizzeria "Tigers Tour" 2024 stop. What the fans didn't know was Silverfield and the Tigers were about to land the leading tackler from the University of Tennessee in Elijah Herring. Herring led the Volunteers with 80 tackles last season as a sophomore, and joins the Tigers with two years of eligibility remaining.
Herring joins Georgia State DE Javon Denis who committed to Memphis this week as well. Denis made 122 tackles in four seasons with the Panthers. This on the heels of Fred Smith's $25-million dollar Name/Image/Likeness (NIL) donation to the University of Memphis at $5-million per year over 5 years.
The latest on the Memphis transfer portal pickups in football and basketball all this week, starting Monday at 9 a.m. with the Geoff Calkins Show, on 92.9 FM ESPN/Memphis.
