On the heels of the Laird Veatch and Memphis President Hardgrave Memphis press conference on Monday (8/28), both of Memphis' columnists (Geoff Calkins from the Daily Memphian and Mark Giannotto from the Commercial Appeal) wrote about the situation pitting the Mayor's Office against his former university and the city's only pro franchise.
Sure, it's great Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland figured out a way to secure $350-Million from the State of Tennessee. What's wrong with that? The latest problem might be the difficulty of satisfying BOTH the University of Memphis/Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium AND the Memphis Grizzlies/FedExForum. Both stadiums need upgrades. But as 92.9 FM ESPN personalities have pointed out, really only one of the two has true leverage and relational value in terms of having the opportunity to leave.
