Williams becomes seventh Tiger to earn AAC weekly recognition

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Tigers forward DeAndre Williams has been named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll after his efforts in a pair of games against SMU last week.

Williams is the seventh different Tiger to earn weekly recognition from the conference this season.

Last week, Williams averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in 29.2 minutes per game against the Mustangs. He started the week with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal in Memphis’ 76-72 come-from-behind win Tuesday night at FedExForum, and he finished with his first double-double as a Tiger, 17 points and 11 rebounds, Thursday night in Dallas.

He shot 58.8 percent from the field (10-17) and made three of his four 3-point tries last week.

The Houston, Texas, native joins Boogie Ellis (Nov. 30), D.J. Jeffries (Dec. 14), Lester Quinones (Dec. 21), Malcolm Dandridge (Jan. 18), and Landers Nolly II (Jan. 25) as Tigers named to the Honor Roll this season. Moussa Cisse has twice been named AAC Freshman of the Week (Dec. 14, Jan. 25).

Memphis (9-6, 5-3 AAC) is back in action tonight at FedExForum against UCF. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., and the game can be seen on ESPN+. The Tigers and Knights square off again Wednesday night at FedExForum, also at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. The Tigers will finish the week Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against East Carolina on either ESPN2 or ESPNU. The final game on Memphis' four-game homestand is next Thursday, Feb. 11, against Cincinnati at 6 p.m. on ESPN2 or ESPNU.
