Athletics star and former ECS slugger Brent Rooker will participate in the 2025 Major League Baseball Home Run Derby on Monday night (7/14) on 92.9 FM ESPN.

Geoff Calkins talked about Rooker and the weekend on 92.9 FM ESPN on Monday morning (7/14).

Brent Rooker, a two-time MLB All-Star, solidified his place in the 2025 Midsummer Classic as the American League’s designated hitter. A gritty power hitter, Rooker earned this nod after sustaining a .279 average with 20 homers and a .860 OPS through July. He’ll also compete in the Home Run Derby at Truist Park.

Rooker’s journey began in Memphis, where he was a standout multisport athlete at Evangelical Christian School (ECS). Next at Mississippi State, Rooker redshirted in 2014 and emerged in 2017 as SEC Player and National Player of the Year, capturing the SEC Triple Crown. He was drafted twice: first in the 38th round by the Twins in 2016, then elevated to a first-round pick (35th overall) in 2017 after his monster junior season.
