NEW YORK, Oct. 23, 2025 – The NBA issued the following statement today:
“We are in the process of reviewing the federal indictments announced today. Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups are being placed on immediate leave from their teams, and we will continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities. We take these allegations with the utmost seriousness, and the integrity of our game remains our top priority.”
Jason & John discussed the NBA gambling ring allegations today on 92.9 FM ESPN (AUDIO):
Essentially federal officials conducted a sweeping gambling investigation of NBA player Terry Rozier of the Miami Heat and Chauncey Billups, head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers. The two were among more than 30 people charged in two schemes which might be connected.
Prosecutors allege Rozier provided insider information about player injuries and availability to assist in profitable sports bets, including a 2023 incident where he allegedly faked or exaggerated an injury to influence wagers. Billups, meanwhile, is accused of participating in a Mafia-backed high-stakes poker ring that used rigged games and technology to defraud participants, serving as a celebrity figure to attract wealthy players.
The FBI described the operation as a multi-million-dollar fraud tied to organized crime families.
