The 2026 NFL Draft opened with no surprise at the top, as the Las Vegas Raiders selected Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza No. 1 overall, making him the new face of the franchise after a Heisman-winning, national championship season.
The early board leaned heavily toward premium talent, with edge rusher David Bailey going No. 2 to the Jets and running back Jeremiyah Love landing with Arizona at No. 3. Tennessee added a major weapon by taking Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate at No. 4, giving the Titans a true outside playmaker. Dallas made one of the splashier moves of the night, trading up to No. 11 to grab Alabama safety Caleb Downs. Overall, Round 1 was built around quarterbacks, pass rushers, offensive tackles, receivers and defensive backs — the positions NFL teams value most when trying to protect, pressure and create explosive plays.
