On Saturday (12/2) the College Football Playoff's first round featured three exciting matchups under the new 12-team format. No. 10 Miami pulled off a defensive battle at Texas A&M, winning 10–3 in a gritty contest highlighted by Miami’s stout defense and a late go-ahead touchdown drive.

At Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, No. 6 Ole Miss dominated No. 11 Tulane 41–10, controlling the game from start to finish with balanced offense and strong defensive pressure.

Later in the evening, No. 5 Oregon used an explosive offensive showing to defeat No. 12 James Madison 51–34, paced by a multi-touchdown performance from their quarterback and a high-tempo attack that overwhelmed the Dukes.
