ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Not that we forgot about his eight Gold Glove and four Platinum Glove awards, but it had been (relatively) a while since Nolan Arenado did something to really impress the heck out of us. Well, he did it multiple times for a national TV audience on Sunday night.

Although the Chicago Cubs got the 2-0 win, the St. Louis Cardinals third baseman stole the show.

The first highlight reel throw came in the second inning when Willson Contreras hit a sharp grounder near the third base line. Arenado scooped the ball up about 2 feet from the line in fair territory, then let loose on an off-balanced throw about 15 feet on the other side of the chalk. It was a perfect strike to a waiting Paul Goldschmidt at first:

Two innings later, Patrick Wisdom hits an almost identical grounder, but this time Arenado elected to make a jump throw – nearly running over the umpire. The balls took one hop, but was perfectly on target to first base again.

Last, but maybe the most noteworthy play of the night for Arenado was a more casual play made in the bottom of the sixth, again on a Contreras grounder. The infielder unleashed an 88.4 mph throw over to first base for the out – the fastest ball Arenado has thrown this season, according to MLB.com's Zach Silver.

The rocket wasn't the fastest throw of his career though. Actually, his personal best was set in 2015 when he threw out his current teammate, Yadier Molina with a 90.4 mph heater across the diamond:
