'I was a daredevil'┃Cardinals' Ozzie Smith explains origin of his famous backflip

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - There are two questions that Ozzie Smith says he gets asked more than anything:
• Why did you start doing backflips before baseball games?
• What was it like being on an episode of "The Simpsons?"

The St. Louis Cardinals legend joined St. Louis Talks on Wednesday and we asked him about the famous flip, which you can hear him explain in the audio at the top of the page.

The first time Ozzie Smith flipped on a baseball field was in Spring Training in 1978 with San Diego Padres. It would later become an Opening Day tradition, which continued until 1995 when he was 40-years-old:

The Hall of Fame shortstop also announced this week a 40th anniversary celebration of the Cardinals winning the 1982 World Series is happening at Ballpark Village -- February 17, 2022 -- featuring the entire '82 Cardinals infield: Keith Hernandez (1B), Tommy Herr (2B), Smith (SS) and Ken Oberkfell (3B).
