Redbirds extend winning streak to 14-in-a-row with win Saturday in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – The Memphis Redbirds used an offensive explosion in the middle innings to take home an 8-4 win over the Louisville Bats on Saturday night, extending their franchise record winning streak to 14 consecutive games.

Both MLB rehabber Miles Mikolas and Michael Mariot excelled on the mound in the beginning of the ballgame, retiring the first 19 batters of the night between the two of them. The Redbirds (35-36) finally got to Mariot in the fourth inning, when Nolan Gorman doubled with one out. Two batters later, Lars Nootbaar launched a home run over the high wall in right field to give Memphis a 2-0 lead. Kramer Robertson stepped up next and hit a home run of his own, extending the advantage to 3-0.

The Redbirds continued to pour it on in the fifth, scoring four more times on a two-run double from Gorman and a two-run home run from Juan Yepez. It was the third straight game that Yepez has gone deep. He now leads the Redbirds with nine home runs this season.

After Mikolas’ three perfect innings in his rehab start, the bullpen went the rest of the way for the ‘Birds, holding down the Louisville (27-43) offense. Jesús CruzConnor JonesGarrett WilliamsTyler Webb and Junior Fernández finished off the 14th straight win for the Redbirds.
