Did we see the last of Gausman in starting rotation?

The Atlanta Braves bats were on fire in a 13-7 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night. However, it was another rough outing for starting pitcher Kevin Gausman.

Gausman gave up four runs on five hits in only 2 1/3 innings of work. He has a 2-5 record and a 6.21 ERA through his 13 starts.

With the signing of veteran pitcher Dallas Keuchel, who pitched seven scoreless innings in his debut with the Rome Braves, will Gausman get another start?

"I'd be very surprised if that happens," Joe Patrick, 92.9 The Game's Braves reporter, said. "In fact, I'm half anticipating hearing some news about what's going to happen with Kevin Gausman today when the team kind of convenes in the clubhouse this afternoon."

And with Gausman continuing to struggle, Patrick says it's an opportunity for Sean Newcomb to make it back into the starting rotation.

"I think it makes sense especially when you consider that Newcomb just pitched four 2/3 innings last night so he got a little bit stretched out where he could make another start coming up in what would be Gausman's next outing. I think it makes sense, at least just for one start."

"I think long term, this season, Sean Newcomb will probably stay in a bullpen role but he might be the guy who can just tide you over for just one or two starts until Dallas Keuchel is ready to come up to this team in the majors."
