The Atlanta Braves blew the chance to widen the gap in the NL East, losing a two-game series to one of MLB's worst teams in the Kansas City Royals.
But it wasn't due to their starting pitching. Instead, it was a lack of offensive production and a couple defensive eras.
Braves starters Dallas Keuchel and Julio Teheran both pitched gems this week. And if Kevin Gausman has another quality start, the focus should turn back to adding some relief help by the MLB trade deadline on July 31.
"The bullpen is not just one spot. The bullpen is more than just the closer," Andy Bunker said. "I wouldn't be surprised if the move they make is for a middle relief guy."
Mike Foltynewicz has had some quality starts in Gwinnett as he works his way back to the big club. Folty allowed one run and three hits in his seven innings of work for the Stripers yesterday afternoon. He's 4-0 with a 2.93 ERA in his last five starts.
"Here's the thing about Folty anyway; even if they do bring back Folty now, that's a six man rotation," Andy continued.
"Instead of bolstering the rotation, they're lengthening the rotation. They're going to go to a six man rotation. That's their trade deadline move."
"As we sit here today, I would say likely the focus would be more bullpen than starter."@Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos previews the 2019 trade deadline. https://t.co/BhlAlItVoC
