The Atlanta Hawks' players were back at the Emory Sports Medicine Complex as they prepare for the upcoming 2019 season.

Point guard Trae Young, who's first season earned him a Rookie of the Year nomination, talked about what Lloyd Pierce expects from him heading in to year two.

"(Coach Pierce's) main focus was more about...me taking more of that leader role, being more vocally leading," Young said.

"I've always been a good leader by example but leading vocally is something--I've been good at but just something that I got to continue to get better at."

Young said being a second-year player makes it a little easier to be more vocal. He joked it would've been weird as a 19-year-old leading the veteran Vince Carter.

"I know how to talk to a vet. I know how to talk to a younger guy just because I've been around the OG (Carter) for a year, and it's been great."

And with the new additions of De’Andre Hunter, Cam Reddish and Bruno Fernando, Young is ready to get the new season started.

"I wish we could start playing tomorrow just because I'm so excited to play," Young said.

"A lot of buzz and a lot of hype coming around our team about the growth we're taking and the growth we're having, I'm super excited to start playing."
