With Atlanta United's disappointing finish in last night's CONCACAF semifinal match against Monterrey in Mexico, the Morning Show's John Fricke and Hugh Douglas responded to some of the fans on social media whose comments were critical of Frank de Boer's first few games.
“They will need to be on top of their game and handle their business next week,” Hugh said, as the two teams play Leg 2 on Wednesday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
By playing 18 games in six games, United will certainly have to bring their “A” game in both CONCACAF and MLS action, giving how quickly these games appear on the schedule.
They open their 2019 MLS home schedule Sunday when they host expansion FC Cincinnati at 5 ET.
“They have not played a game home yet,” John said, who also points out how the roster adjustments could change the way United approaches the season.
“I still think at the end of the season, they will be exactly where then need to be,” said Hugh.
While there’s a bit of consternation from the fans with de Boer’s system, the slow start and a lack of scoring, the guys hoped fans will understand that United has, in reality, only played four games under the new coach. With the additional loss of Miggy Almiron, give the MLS champs time to mesh.
