Atlanta United play-by-play voice Mike Conti joined Hugh Douglas and John Fricke on The Morning Show Monday and their discussion included some questions about the weather and playing conditions for Saturday's loss to Columbus. Conti shared his thoughts just after the game via Twitter and then doubled down on the show.
There’s not a whole lot to be analyzed from last night’s match because of conditions. But if you want an encouraging trend, look at the chances created by Atlanta United this month:at DC 5at MTY 3CIN 7MTY 7PHI 10CLB 13(Opta defines key passes as a created chance)

March 31, 2019 "I'm worried that it would have been a travel and logistical nightmare," said Conti. "I really hope that wasn't the reason why, because that was a dangerous situation to put BOTH clubs in that. It became beach soccer, and at the end of the year put that one aside, conditions were just too severe. There really is no conclusion you can draw from a match like that."
Conti also discussed how even with the poor results, Atlanta United is closer than ever to being the team they were last season.
"The thing I would point to is, initially, after the D.C. match, Monterrey, Cincinnati, the complaint we heard was that Atlanta United was not the same type of attacking team they were last year," the voice of Atlanta United said. "The last two matches, they created 10 chances and 13 chances. I think if we're going to be totally fair, I think there is some statistical evidence they are finding a way to get back into that form we saw last year that's a little more attack oriented."
