Atlanta Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos joined Dukes & Bell to talk about the newly signed outfielder Marcell Ozuna and how the team feels like he is better than what his 2019 numbers show.
“No doubt Ozuna is a significant add for us," Anthopoulos said. "From the start of the offseason getting into free agency we had identified him as someone we felt was an underrated player in free agency just because his stat line was good not great, our underlining internal data and numbers on him was significantly stronger than that, and we thought he had a lot more in there just based on his batted ball components and just some bad luck.
“If you look at that last year he had with Miami, 2017 obviously was the best year that he had. We think he’s got the ability to get back there or at least close to it. So we’re certainly excited about it. Our priority was obviously trying to bring Josh Donaldson back. Once that wasn’t gonna happen, Ozuna was still out on the market and we had stayed in contact with him throughout the winter. And we were glad he was still there to be able to get a deal done with us.”
