Falcons Have Money, How Should They Spend It?

Now that June 1 has come and gone the Atlanta Falcons have an additional $10.75 million in salary cap space.

They're now $11.67 million under the salary cap, but a little less than $7 million of that will go to the rookie class.

Falcons will get almost $11 million in cap relief after June 1 with Desmond Trufant designated a post-June 1 cut. Still have to sign the draft class, of course.

Due to the "Rule of 51" the team will actually have at least $7.02 Million left

With around $7 million to use (really $5 million since you save some money for in-season emergencies), what should the Falcons do with it?

There are plenty of options:

  • Grab an available (relatively) big-name free agent? (not Jadeveon Clowney but still some decent names out there)
    • What position would you look to address?
    • What should their role be, teacher/mentor or compete for starting role?
  • Grab multiple lower-priced players for depth?
  • Wait until after training camps to see which players get cut elsewhere and who you can bring in?
  • Save it until AFTER Week 1 so you won’t have to guarantee the contracts?

How would you like to see the team spend their new-found funds?
