The NBA supermax is broken.
The deal meant to keep players with their orginal franchises doesn't really work (see: Kimba Walker and the Charlotte Hornets). The best effort Charlotte made to surround Kimba with another big name star was Dwight Howard. Charlotte chose to build their franchise through the draft, rather than spending money in free agency.
Unfortunately, the NBA draft is a crap-shoot at best. There are zero guarantees you will find a big star in the draft. Now, having been unsuccessful finding stars to surround Kimba, he will likely leave the organization.
The NBA Draft is June 20 and Free Agency begins 10 days later. It will be a very fascinating end to June, watching to see what the Hawks organization will do.
