Atlanta Braves legend Dale Murphy joined Dukes & Bell and talked about the trade deadline, what’s wrong with Austin Riley, and where he stands on robot umpires.

Murphy told the guys he doesn’t expect a big name at to come to Braves at trade deadline.

“The challenge now is the wild card play-in game.” Murphy said “The Giants have now played their way into position to be in that, and the asking price has gone way up for Bumgarner. The people I think they may be going after is someone that baseball fans might not be familiar with but the scouts are big on and the potential is there. I will probably be surprised if it’s a big name that they get, because Gausman looked lights out the other night.”

Dale talked Austin Riley’s issues at the plate.

“This is where you start earning your money.” Murphy said “Back in the 80’s and late 70’s George Brett’s hitting coach got a lot of credit, but a lot of it was George Brett, but what Seitzer needs to do is identify where is it physical with mechanics and where is it a mental issue. Usually the adjustment from the minors to the big leagues is mental, if you’re not mentally ready to go you’re going to be physically late getting to the ball. They may need to give him a few days off here and there, or play him against guys he matches up well, but the main thing is making sure his mental approach is solid.”

When asked if he would prefer robot umpires over real life umps.

“I don’t like any umpires.” Murphy said “It’s kind of one thing where I’ve always said no, it’s interesting to me how many years we’ve been ok with calls being wrong, sometimes I wonder if we can do something with technology is it really worth it to do it. I’m not in favor of this, and it’s something the MLB is really behind doing, but I’m not a fan of this.”
