Atlanta United radio analyst Jason Longshore joined Dukes & Bell to talk about the 5 Stripes win on Saturday and Justin Meram’s big performance.
“You have to have that competition for playing time to keep everyone on though toes. When you go thru stretches like this, with so many games, it’s going to be hard to have consistent lineups.”
“You knew what Montreal was going to do but you had to keep your composure. It’s very easy to play fast and reckless in games like this and then give up a goal. After the break, it felt like Atlanta struggled to find that confidence they played with in May, and it felt like that was back Saturday night.
“This is why you go out and get Justin Meram. It’s such a shrewd move by the front office to get him at that stage of the season. It was just a matter of getting him comfortable and unlocking what we saw from him in 2016 and 2017. Orlando gave up over a million dollars in assets to acquire him just at the start of last season; that’s the player we’re starting to see.”
