Will Palaszczuk kicked off his show by breaking down the Braves tough 6-3 loss. The game was tied after young Braves phenom Ronald Acuña Jr. tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run homer. Then, in the top of the 10th, Greene had a chance to get the somewhat bad taste out of his mouth from blowing a save the night before in his Braves debut.
However, history unfortunately repeated itself for Greene and with the game tied he gave up a three-run shot to Reds’ catcher Tucker Barnhart. While that was the dagger for the Braves in that game, it is now the beginning of Braves fans starting to question Greene.
Leading up to the trade deadline, Will had been saying he thinks the Braves should prioritize getting another starter instead of bullpen arms because there was simply “no one worth getting.” Will did admit the fact the Braves did not give up much to get Greene. However he still believes they should’ve gotten another starter. Will also mentions that while Greene’s numbers look good on paper, he actually had been struggling right before the Braves acquired him, blowing two saves out of his last seven appearances not including the save he blew in his debut.
Ultimately, Will doesn’t think Greene’s struggles will continue, but he is currently trending in the wrong direction. The Braves are in the heat of a division race, and while they can afford a four-game series split with the Cincinnati Reds now they cannot afford any more missed opportunities down the stretch, especially in September.
Hopefully Greene can turn things around soon, or a Braves team that is all in this year might be seeing an end to their season sooner than expected.
