NFL Network Analyst Charles Davis joined Jon Chuckery and Randy McMichael to recap the NFL Scouting Combine.

Davis on how teams are sucked into numbers at the combine, “Certain teams look for certain things. If it comes close to fitting what you want, you can talk yourself into it. I still remember talking with a former NFL Coach and he said I have been doing this for 30+ years now and we get better and better at measuring things but I still feel like at the end of the day we are throwing a dart blindfolded with these guys. Some of those who are great drafters hit on players in the fifth, sixth or seventh rounds. When it comes down to it there is a little bit of luck to it.”

Davis on who the Falcons could draft at running back to back up Devonta Freeman, “Maybe a Devin Singletary out of Florida Atlantic. I think Elijah Holyfield ran himself into the later rounds but that’s not saying he couldn’t be a good running back in this league. I think he will run better at his pro day.”

Davis said, “A lot of players choose to run at their Pro Day because it’s a 24 hour news cycle where combine times stick with you for a long time.”

Davis on if teams can look forward a year or two with quarterbacks in the 2020 and 2021 class, “Number one the quarterback salary cap number isn’t what it used to be. The Cardinals are in a position that the cap number on Rosen won’t kill you. If you are waiting on quarterbacks for next season that’s folly. Will anyone be surprised if three quarterbacks go early? Year in and year out you are going to have that. If you are looking at quarterbacks in future years, so many things have to hit. You also don’t know what’s going to happen to these quarterbacks in college. Remember Brian Brohm? When he started his college career, he was a future number one overall pick. How about Christian Hackenburg?”

Davis on if the Falcons should take Ed Oliver over Dexter Lawrence and Christian Wilkins, “I like those two guys better than Oliver anyways. I like the bigger thicker guys. Oliver weighed 287 at the combine, which means he isn’t usually that big. Check and see what Ed Oliver weighs when he works out at his pro day. Aaron Donald is one thing but how many Aaron Donald’s are there out there?”
