Dr. Dale Yake, Founder and CEO of PT Solutions, joined Sam & Greg to talk about sports and medicine. The conversation turned to Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Mike Soroka. Soroka suffered a torn right Achilles tendon on August 3 that subsequently ended his season.
Greg Clarkson asked Dr. Yake how would he handle Soroka coming back to play from this major injury. Dr. Yake likened his rehab to what a football player would have to endure after a torn Achilles. Dr. Yake talked about how Soroka has to land on the mound with his ankle turning in and how that could put extra stress on his knee. Because of that, Dr. Yake gives at least nine months of recovery at the earliest, and over a year when he is at his optimal performance peak.
Soroka is in camp but is not ready yet. While he may think he is ready, the Braves are going to ease him along. Given the timetable that Dr. Yake has given, we should not expect to see Soroka any time soon. With his injury occurring on August 3, we may not see Soroka at least until late summer or early fall.
