Braves pitching staff 'as a whole' built for championship run
Once the Major League Baseball trade deadline came and went, the end results for the Atlanta Braves left some questioning whether President, Baseball Operations and General Manager, Alex Anthopoulos acquired enough quality pitching in Tyler Mahle and Brent Suter to help the team reach the postseason and make a World Series run.
“I wasn’t overly concerned but I will say I still don’t think it’s the best pitching staff in the National League going in,” Atlanta Braves beat writer for the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Chad Bishop said as he joined 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell to explain that while the Braves starting rotation may not be as elite as teams like the Brewers and Dodgers, he believes the “quality and quantity” of the Braves pitching staff as a whole, is reason to feel positive.
“Adding Tyler Mahle was huge, but Didier Fuentes, Raisel Iglasias, the Dylan [Lee and Dodd] boys, Victor Mederos, the way he’s been pitching. Some of these guys out of the bullpen are going to play a bigger factor than I think we’re giving them credit for,” Bishop said, adding that with what AJ Smith-Shawver and Grant Holmes “have been doing,” the Braves may be well equipped for postseason success.
“I think collectively as a whole, I really like Atlanta’s staff as a whole, so I’m not necessarily concerned with who’s necessarily starting games one, two or three, I like the Braves as a whole and what arms are able to run out there no matter the situation, no matter what inning it might be,” Bishop said.Braves starting rotation backed by solid bullpen
