The Atlanta Braves made their first foray into the 2020 trade market Sunday by acquiring left-handed pitcher Tommy Milone from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for two players to be named later. The trade was first reported by Mark Bowman of MLB.com, and later confirmed by the team.
Milone, a 33-year-old journeyman pitcher, will make the Braves his eighth team in ten seasons in the majors.
He has a modest 1-4 record in 2020, but profiles as a pitcher formatted to Braves manager Brian Snitker's liking as he lives around the strike zone. Milone has walked just four batters in 29 1/3 innings, with 31 strikeouts.
Snitker has lamented the Braves' inability to the throw strikes, as Atlanta has cast aside Touki Touissant, Kyle Wright & Sean Newcomb from the rotation.
The Orioles signed Milone to a Minor-League deal to begin the 2020 season, but expanded rosters allowed the team to purchase his contract before the shortened season began in July.
Milone was scheduled to make around $370,000 in prorated salary this season, and the Braves will pick up the remainder of his one-year contract (around $185,000).
