The Atlanta Braves (14-8) are barely holding onto the lead in the National League East as the streaking New York Mets (14-9) have taken advantage of a Braves four-game slide and now only sit half a game behind the Braves in the standings.
Just behind the Braves and Mets in the division are the Miami Marlins (12-10) who are next up on the schedule for the Braves. And if the Braves bullpen cannot re-discover the mojo that helped the Braves start the season seemingly unbeatable at times, will the Braves still be in first place by the time the series concludes Thursday afternoon?
The World Champion Houston Astros came to Truist Park over the weekend and swept the Braves by piling up runs on the Braves bullpen that failed to hold leads in two of the three games.
However, help may soon be arriving to the Braves roster.
On Sunday’s edition of The Abe-T-L Show on 92.9 the Game, Abe Gordon gave an update on some arms that soon may be back in the mix for Braves manager Brian Snitker.
“The bullpen in nowhere near full strength, and I think it is about to become full strength,” emphasized Abe when recapping the series against the Astros.
Abe continued with an update on injured relievers Collin McHugh and Raisel Iglesias.
“Collin McHugh threw three scoreless innings at Rome on Friday,” excitingly uttered Abe when projecting that McHugh could be returning back to the squad as early as one day this week.
And when speaking about closer Raisel Iglesias, Abe commented: “He will throw live BP on Monday, but will still need a full ramp-up”
Can the help arrive in time to get the Braves back on the winning side of the Marlins series?
For now, we must wait and see.
