After the injuries suffered to the Atlanta Braves bullpen during their weekend series with the Chicago White Sox, Alex Anthopoulos and the Braves now have no choice but to get bullpen help at the trade deadline.
Friday the Braves announced that they placed RHP Nick Anderson on the 60-day IL, backdated to July 8th, with a right shoulder strain, and Saturday the Braves announced they placed LHP A.J. Minter on the 15-day IL, backdated to July 12th, with left shoulder inflammation.
Earlier today The Morning Shift explained why the Braves now have to make a move to bolster their beat up bullpen before the August 1st trade deadline.
“When you look at the injuries and what they’re building towards, look trade deadline is two weeks away, and so you gotta make some moves at some point, I don’t know what those move are, I don’t know who’s out there as far as relievers to go get, but you got some decisions to make.” Mike Johnson said.
Beau Morgan followed up by saying “I think the move has been all season that they’re going to get a backend reliever. [Raisel] Iglesias and [A.J.] Minter have been up and down, they’ve both dealt with injuries, I think that’s been the move all along.”
Now, Beau did point out that the Braves bullpen will be getting healthy sooner rather than later saying “Dylan Lee is going to be coming back very soon, you still got [Michael] Tonkin, Kirby Yates has actually been better than people will give him credit for, Michael Soroka is a guy who could be a candidate to go to the bullpen once you get Fried and Wright back.”
Even with guys coming back soon, a team like the Braves who is expected to make a deep postseason run can never have enough bullpen help, and with the recent injuries to the Braves bullpen, Alex Anthopoulos and the Braves have no choice but to be active and add a reliever or two before the trade deadline.
