As expected, the Atlanta Braves came home Friday and opened their series against the Marlins with their best offensive performance of the season as they defeated the Marlins 10-0 on 16 hits while Spencer Schwellenbach allowed just two hits and no runs while striking out 10 through 8 innings.
However, on Saturday the Braves offense reverted to the form of their 0-7 start as they were held scoreless for the third time this season, losing to the Marlins 4-0 and falling to 1-8 on the season. As they reacted to the Braves outing, Steak Shapiro and Drew Butler shared their thoughts on why they believe the margin for error is “very small” as they continue to turn their season around.
“Nobody would have imagined one night removed from a 10-0 onslaught that you’d go out the next night and get completely shut down,” Shapiro said as he and Butler reacted to the Braves shutout loss on Saturday.
“You put yourself in a hole and the beauty of baseball is there is 162 games so any hole is not insurmountable in any way, shape or form," Shapiro added, making the case for the Braves having more than enough time to right the ship. However, the suspension of Jurickson Profar and the loss of Reynaldo Lopez “changed the complexion of your entire season,” Shapiro said of the outlook for the Braves.
“I think every Braves fan is worried because yes, it’s only eight games into the season but you just don’t have that expectation for 2025,” Butler added, sharing his concern for Atlanta’s start to the season.
