After losing two out of three in their series against the San Diego Padres over the weekend, the Atlanta Braves find themselves back under .500 after losing four of their last five games, and earlier today The Morning Shift explained why the Braves need to win their their three game series starting tonight against the Philadelphia Phillies if they truly consider themselves a playoff team.
“I think that it’s important to take two of three if you consider yourself a playoff team, and the reason why is your 4-6 in your last ten. You lost two to the Nats and then came home and lost two of three to the Padres, so you’re 1-4 in your last five. You need to remember what winning is like, see this was the problem with the team starting out the way they did this season is you have less room for these types of spurts of losing baseball.” Beau said
Beau finished his thought by saying “You’ve basically afforded yourself no margin of error, and especially when you play a team like the Phillies that are red hot. You lose two of three in this series and you’re what 9.5 games out, 10 games out, so you just can’t.”
Hopefully with Spencer Strider back, who is starting for the Braves tonight in the opening game against the Phillies, and Ronald Acuña Jr. back, who went 4-12 in his first series back, including hitting two home runs in his first two games back, the Braves can really get into a rhythm, and start putting some extended win streaks together, because that’s what they’ll need to secure a playoff spot, and maybe just maybe reclaim the NL East crown.
