Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos stopped by Dukes & Bell on Monday following a tough sweep at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays. The team’s pitching is thin with starters Max Fried and Kyle Wright on the shelf for the next several weeks at least. The guys asked Anthopoulos what the plan is in terms of making a potential deal for another starter.
“Everyone always no matter if it's offense, bullpen, rotation, you’re always staying engaged. There’s just not a lot out there in May. Even those teams who know they’re not contending for the post season, it’s a tough sell to go into their clubhouse and start trading guys in May,” Anthopoulos explained.
"That does not mean it can’t happen. But there’s a real premium to move early in the season. We’ve made calls. I’ve checked in. For the majority of guys we want to go after and target, we’ve been told teams are not ready,” He added.
The internal options for the Braves include Jared Shuster, Dylan Dodd and Michael Soroka, all of whom are currently pitching for Triple-A Gwinnett. Anthopoulos added that Shuster has been throwing the best thus far and could get another turn for the Braves soon.
